24-25 Cell Phone Policy
We are excited to announce an important change at Helix Aviation Academy that will significantly enhance our students’ learning experience! In order to comply with the newly amended state law R.S. 17:239(A), we will be implementing a new cellphone and smart watch policy for the 2024-2025 school year.
What’s Changing: To foster a more focused and engaging educational environment, cellphones/smart watches will no longer be permitted at school. This decision comes after careful consideration and is designed to support the academic success of our students.
Why is this Great News?
Studies have shown that reducing cellphone use at schools can lead to better concentration and higher grades, while encouraging students to engage in more meaningful social interactions with others. This policy will reduce distractions and encourage scholars to fully immerse themselves in the learning process.
Key Details About the Policy:
No Cellphones/Smart Watches on Campus: Students will not be allowed to have cellphones or smart watches on their person during school hours.
Secure Storage: Students are encouraged to leave their cellphones and smart watches at home. If a student has a smart device on campus, it will be powered off and collected by school staff at the beginning of the day and secured for the duration of the day. Devices will be returned to students at the end of the academic day.
Communication During the Day: Should you need to contact your scholar during the academic day, please contact the office directly. We are here to assist with any urgent communication needs.
Faculty and staff will apply qualifying exceptional student services exemptions to this policy as required.
Disclaimer:
Helix Community Schools is not responsible for lost or stolen cellphones or smart watches.
We believe this policy change will create a more positive, focused and productive school environment. We are excited about the benefits it will have to our students and staff. Your support and cooperation are essential to the success of this initiative and we thank you in advance for your partnership in making this a successful endeavor.
Together, let’s continue to make Helix Aviation a place where our scholars are uniquely positioned for a successful academic journey and can achieve their full potential.
